We started potty training the weekend before "Leslie" came and distracted me from sharing this with you! We had been doing lots of reading on different methods, and settled on the "Three Day" training method, where you go all in and hope for the best. Friday, Day 1, I was on my own with the boys. We "threw away" all the diapers and proudly put on their new cars big boy pants! With this method, you take them to the potty every hour on the hour the first day. We only had 4 changes of underpants, and Charlie stayed dry until 3:30 in the afternoon, even through his nap! This gave me hope for the future!
Saturday, Day 2, since the first day was such a success, we decided to push juice and liquids so we could have lots of "successes" since Brad was home to help. That resulted in 11 changes of underpants before noon. Over nap we re-evaluated our system, and switched to the "Donald Duck" method as we call it, nude from the waist down, rather than sporting big boy drawers. The theory is that the underwear feel so similar to diapers (especially since we used cloth) that the child can't tell the difference. We began stretching out the amount of times between bathroom visits as well. We had no more accidents for the rest of the day!
Sunday, Day 3, we had no accidents all day with the Donald Duck method.
Monday, Day 4, we had one accident each, but we resumed wearing underpants, so I consider this a success.
Naps the boys have been dry through most days they've been dry waking up as long as we rush them to the potty first thing. We've had many accidents along the way, but we're on the right track! We give milk the same as we used to, and no juice at all, only water otherwise. We restrict liquids after 5-5:30, since bedtime is 7:30.
Nowe we're several weeks in, and I can't remember the last time I threw in a load of diapers to wash! They're 23 months and doing great!
