Monday we had another OB appointment and ultrasound. I've been feeling wonderful, and have gained nearly 20 pounds so far - wowza, and all other things are just as they should be with me. Both babies are gaining weight - Charlie (Baby A) is 1.3lbs and Eli (Baby B) is 1.1lbs, right on track, and great news! However, we also recieved some not so great news, Eli's bloodflow through the umbilical cord is intermittent, which means that quite often between pulsing in and out through the cord, there is a period where no blood is flowing. This can be an early indication of Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS) which can be very grave in certain situations. However, we have not yet recieved this diagnosis, and our wonderful doctor, Dr. Andrea Greiner is a TTTS specialist, so we're in the best hands! To keep a close eye on the situation we will be getting ultrasounds each week from here on. Additionally, Charlie has some extra fluid on his neck, which can be an indicator of heart problems, chromosomal disorders or TTTS.
Monday wasn't not the greatest day, but Tuesday we got more good news. After meeting with the Pediatric Cardiologist who performed in depth scans of both babies' hearts we have been told that both Charlie and Eli seem to have hearts in perfect condition! The cadiologist will also follow up with us at around 30 weeks to make sure nothing was missed. We're very blessed to have two boys with healthy hearts.
Next week we'll have more testing performed and see what answers they bring. For now your extra thoughts and prayers will be much appreciated.
